Session 3

Welcome to Session 3. During this Session you will review the National Association for the Education of Young Children's Code of Ethical Conduct. It states that early educators "shall place the welfare and safety of children above other obligations" (NAEYC, 2011). Children's safety is your first priority. When children feel secure in a safe, stable, and trusting settings, they are better prepared to learn. During this week, you will learn what it means to create a safe indoor and outdoor environment for children to develop and take safe risks. You will also be able to implement ways to teach children about safety such as creating rules and incorporating the theme into curriculum.

In this session, you will examine the following ways to keep children safe:

  • Maintaining a Safe Physical Settings
  • Teaching Children About Safety
  • Modeling Safe Practices
  • Implementing Emergency Plan
  • Involving Parents in Classroom Safety
